"So" has two different uses. "So" can be an adverb or a coordinating conjunction. "So" can be used the same way as "too". They are both used to give an adjective or adverb a more extreme meaning. However, "so" is used to describe the word as stronger in intensity. "Too" is used to describe the word as being more than necessary or enough.
