Used To

"Used to" indicates that something was repeatedly done in the past, but is not done anymore. The sentence pattern for "used to" is "subject + used to + simple present". Do not add "-s" to the end of the simple present verb tense even if the subject is in singular form.

"Used to" indicates that something was once a fact, but is no longer a true statement.
  • I used to be overweight, but now I am skinny.
  • Shannon used to live in Hawaii.
  • Dave used to be the smartest kid in school.
  • Coffee used to be bad for you, but now it has some health benefits.
